Where walk leads you on old and historic Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan route of Nepal to Tibet that extends beyond Lower Mustang where our trek follows for some days with awesome views during the walks.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Himalayan Lungta staff and guide for transfer to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city around Thamel the exciting place of the city, on checking your rooms meet at the lobby for group briefing regarding treks and other necessary information.

Morning as per group size either in coach or tourist bus and car to reach Nepal Mid West at scenic city of Pokhara, as journey takes you through rural farm villages and towns to reach at Pokhara by its calm Phewa Lake where hotels are located.

(Flying options 30 minutes of scenic flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu)

Morning short and scenic flight to reach Jomsom from Pokhara, Jomsom a large town and headquarter of whole Mustang area, located on a shelf of Kali-Gandaki River.

During air borne enjoy super views of high snow-capped peak range of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri with dramatic landscapes as flight lands at Jomsom airport located within Lower Mustang and the hub of Thakali people of Kaligandaki valley.

At Jomsom transfer into a nice lodge or hotel with time to marvel views of Nilgiri’s peaks and walking around the street of Jomsom and observe local Thakali immense cultures intact with Buddhism religion.

From Jomsom where adventure starts towards wide Kali-Gandaki River valley to reach at Kagbeni village, an important place to enter Upper Mustang and beyond as far towards Tibet border, on this ancient Trans Himalayan Salt Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet.

Kagbeni an interesting village similar to Tibetan in culture and way of traditional farm life as well cattle herding of Yaks and normal domesticated animals, here with time to browse around Kagbeni and witness amazing custom of Mustang people with strong Tibetan origin.

From Kagbeni morning walk takes you on winding uphill trail to reach nice villages of Tibetan style villages of Jharkot, with time for tour around its old and interesting monastery believed to be built of 15th Century, and then trek uphill for another hour to reach at Muktinath following a wide path to reach Rani Pauwa near holy temple of Muktinath.

Muktinath an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhist, here you can witness natural flames In, the heart of this sunny, magical valley of Muktinath, one of the most sacred of pilgrimage places of Nepal and Himalaya region. Overnight in one of its many good lodges with views of Dhaulagiri-Tukuche and Nilgiri’s peaks, here with time to visit holy Muktinath Temple meaning ‘Liberty or Nirvana’ and its sacred 108 water spouts which is one of the source of great Kaligandaki River.

After a great marvelous time and overnight at Muktinath visiting its sacred temple where morning walk takes on a hidden path around Lower Mustang area, where few trekkers and

visitors often venture beyond Jharkot and Muktinath area, as walk leads to climb of short hours to reach a high hill facing incredible panorama of surrounding Mustang Himal with Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri’s and Tilicho peaks, then descend to a green valley where time forgotten and weather beaten village of Lupra located.

At Lupra enjoy afternoon visiting ancient monastery one of few religious sites with shrine of Bon-Pa an old pre-Buddhism sect religion where Bon was practice before Buddhism came in

Tibet and Mustang area around 7th centaury where Bon an ancient sect worship of natural

spirits with an old heritage culture of past generations.

After Muktinath and Lupra, morning walk on quiet pleasant trail on less explore and undisturbed area as route leads to a big drop of 1,200 m towards Kaligandaki river valley, as walk takes you back at Kaligandaki River valley and then heading towards Jomsom after few hours of interesting trek. Jomsom a headquarter town of Mustang region with a small airstrip above Kaligandaki River.

At Jomsom afternoon free to explore Thakali town and to witness its impressive culture of Tibetan Buddhism, quite similar to Manang villages, Jomsom situated on old Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan Trail of Nepal and Tibet which extends towards upper Mustang unto Tibet border at Karo-la pass.

With marvelous time at Jomsom today leisure walks of few hours to reach at Thini village which is across Kaligandaki River, which is quite different to Jomsom where you capture the real and true traditional life of Thakali people and its cultures with farming.

Walk leads to cross a long bridge with slow up for an hour to reach at isolated village of Thini often visited by few trekkers where you will be rewarded with grand views of Nilgiri’s, Dhaulagiri peaks facing Jomsom town below. 

Another pleasant day walk with scenic views as route from Thini village heads down near the bank of Kaligandaki and taking a new trail past Jomsom small lake then crossing over the river to reach the road to Marpha village.

After a relaxing stop in between to observe views of lovely scenery an hour of good gradual walk reaches you at Marpha, a charming village in all Himalaya region, a little gem with whitewashed houses, paved streets and numerous well-kept lodges.

Here celebrate with local apple products like cider, brandy and juice this area from Kagbeni to Larjung is famous for its delicious apple and its product.

Ending our nice scenic walks at Marpha an easy leisure morning taking a drive from here on to Pokhara with overnight stops in next lovely villages of Kaligandaki River valley, as drive leads

from Marpha onward, an enjoyable ride following Kaligandaki river downstream, reaching Tukuche village, beneath towering Tukuche peak and Dhaulagiri and Mt. Nilgiri’s with tumbling Dhaulagiri icefalls, after Tukuche where drive leads at large Larjung village.

At Larjung with time to explore around the village with perfect views of Dhaulagiri and its massive ice fall.

From Larjung onward where drive leads on a wide river bed, and then back into tree lines of pines, oaks and rhododendron, the path meanders away from the river for a while for an hour then coming back on the river bed to reach nice Kalapani village, after a short stop drive continues past villages facing views of Mt. Annapurna I, Nilgiri’s and Dhaulagiri, a short downhill brings at Lete village.

From here on dramatic changes in vegetation with landscapes from dry, arid desert to pine and conifer forested area, as the ride takes you between two giant peaks of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna that forms as world deepest gorge.

The first two hours ride through Ghasa village with constant view of the snow- capped peaks through the cool forest surrounding, then head due southern end populated by Thakali people on reaching Tatopani village, the architectural style change, with much ornately carved wood work in evidence.

Tatopani located within low warm sub-tropical climate a nice place to stay overnight and enjoy its large hot natural spring pools just by the bank of the River Kaligandaki.

Morning our last day of the adventure around the hills and valley of Kaligandaki and then taking an exciting drive to reach back at Pokhara, after a most enjoyable and scenic time on high hills around scenic Kaligandaki on Lower Mustang Trekking.

Morning an overland journey to reach Kathmandu on leaving Pokhara after breakfast, where drive lead on the same interesting highway to reach at Kathmandu and to your hotel, with afternoon free to enjoy your own personal activities.

Last day in Nepal with memorable times and experience on Himalaya, as time for your international flight and then depart from the hotel, where our staff and guide transfers you for your flight homeward bound.

  • Personal Trekking gear and equipment, down or duvet jackets, sleeping bags. (Sleeping bags and down jackets and climbing equipment can be hired in Kathmandu at reasonable cost if it's too much to carry from home)
  • Emergency Evacuation by any means of Transportations and personal medical kit.
  • Early return from the trips or breaking up the journey due to personal / medical reason clients has to bear extra expenses in Kathmandu or on route with related expenses as there will be no refund from the company in such situation.
