About Poon Hill And Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp trekking with Himalaya Lungta Treks and Expeditions leads you to enjoyable country around high Annapurna Himalaya right beneath towering Mt. Annapurna I listed as world highest peak at above 8,091 m the first ever 8,000 meters climbed in early June 1950 even three years before Mt. Everest was summated.

Annapurna Base Camp trekking one of the few adventure destinations in and around Himalaya where you can reach its base camp at shortest duration of time of less than week trek.

Starting from beautiful Pokhara adorned with natural beauty of peaks and lakes where walk leads from low warm paddy fields to reach at cooler alpine hills filled with serene green forest of rhododendron and pine tree lines, then explore around nice area at Ghorepani with hike to scenic Poon Hill for wonderful panorama of mountains with stunning sunrise views.

As walk continues heading towards Chomrong within large Gurung village before heading to our final destination at Annapurna Base Camp.

Walk leads into nice cool forest and into river gorge to reach an open wide plateau at Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed with array of snow peaks as walk reaches you at Annapurna base camp facing glorious panorama of mighty mountains.

Enjoying marvelous moments at Annapurna base camp in the comfort of nice cozy lodge, where walk to Jhinu village with natural hot spring and then ending our marvelous walk to high ridges of Dhampus village where Annapurna Base Camp Trekking completes with short drive to beautiful Pokhara, after a glorious adventure on high hills of Annapurna Himalaya.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Himalayan Lungta staff and guide for transfer to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city around Thamel the exciting place of the city, on checking your rooms meet at the lobby for group briefing regarding treks and other necessary information.

Morning as per group size either in coach or tourist bus and car to reach Nepal Mid West at scenic city of Pokhara, as journey takes you through rural farm villages and towns to reach at Pokhara by its calm Phewa Lake where hotels are located.

(Flying options 30 minutes of scenic flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu)

Start our trekking adventure with short drive towards outskirt of Pokhara valley at Nayapul and Bhirethati village, where walk begins heading uphill past farm villages and beautiful water falls to reach at Hille and Tirkhedhunga and then climb for few hours on stone steps to reach Ulleri village for overnight stop with views of Annapurna South and top of Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’.

Morning a short walk leads past Ulleri and Bhanthati village, where route leads into cool alpine forest covered with tall rhododendron-magnolia-oaks-pines and fir trees as trek proceeds slowly to Ghorepani village for overnight stop.

Ghorepani populated by Poon people of Magar tribe located beneath Poon Hill view point.                     

Rising early morning with cool mountain air, as hike takes to scenic view-point at Poon Hill located above 3,210 m high facing stunning sunrise views over chain of Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri, Mustang Himal, Nilgiri’s, Annapurna, Machhapuchare peak with Lamjung and Manaslu Himal.

After a scenic and dramatic moment descend to Ghorepani having breakfast continue walk uphill to Deurali within forested area and downhill to another Bhanthati village.

After a refreshing stop downhill to a stream and short climb up to reach at Tadapani for overnight located in the midst of a forest.

Morning on long downhill into dense alpine trees of rhododendron and pines to reach at Gurjung village and then short climb to reach above Kimrong Khola (stream) valley, and then on gradual trail for few hours to reach at a large village at Chomrong for overnight stop.

Chomrong populated by Gurung people and the last permanent human settlement on route Annapurna base camp and the sanctuary.

With pleasant time at Chomrong facing views of Annapurna, where morning walk leads to short downhill to cross a bridge, and then with steady climb to reach at Sinuwa hill with few small lodges and shops.

From here on winding path with short ups and down into cool shade of pine and rhododendron forest then descend to Bamboo a settlement in the middle of bamboo forest with nice good lodges to stay, after Bamboo a slow climb takes you to overnight stop at Dovan, a small spot above Modi River situated in a gorge.

From Dovan walk get closer towards our main destination as morning walk follows up on winding path through thick alpine forest to reach Himalaya Hotel close to large overhanging cave called Hinko, located just beneath Annapurna South and Huinchuli peaks.

After a refreshing break walk on ablation of old moraine and glacier section above Modi River and then short climb reaches you at Deurali a nice place with number of good lodges.

Deurali for possible lunch stop, where afternoon walk follows Modi River upstream as climb leads to some steep ups where tree lines drops for short alpine bushes and then reaching our overnight stop at Machhapuchare base camp.

Our overnight stop located beneath mighty North West Face of Machhapuchare Himal the famous Fish Tail peak, a mountain with twin summit resembling like a ‘fish tail’ one of the few virgin and unclimbed peaks of Himalaya.

Morning short walk to reach at Annapurna base camp within beautiful Annapurna Sanctuary as adventure continues faceing views of Annapurna I and range of peaks, as climb leads for a short-while and then on pleasant path on entering spectacular Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed by amphitheatre of peaks.

On reaching at Annapurna base camp enjoy views of giant peaks with massive Mt. Annapurna I at 8,091 m (the first 8,000 m mountain ever climbed in 1950 by French Expeditions earlier than Everest was conquered in 1953), at base camp enjoying charming scenery of mountains and its arctic landscapes.

After a most exciting and enjoyable moment on highest spot of the adventure at Annapurna base camp, return journey on same trail to reach Himalayan Hotel for overnight stop with the sound of Modi River.

From Himalaya short walk to reach at Bamboo place and then short climb to reach at Chomrong after walking down and ups, at Chomrong for lunch and afternoon walk above Chomrong village and descend to nice village of Jhinu for overnight stop.

At Jhinu enjoy refreshing afternoon visiting its natural hot spring pools which is a short walk downhill close to the shore of raging Modi River.

After an enjoyable and refreshing time at Jhinu where walk leads down at Modi River after crossing a bridge as route leads into warm farm area where short climb reaches you into a nice large Gurung village at Landruk for overnight stop with views of Annapurna South and Huinchuli peaks.

Morning from Landruk with amazing close views of peaks as walk leads into farm field and terraces with short climb to nice village at Tolka, from here on winding easy road to reach at Bhede Kharka, and then an hour climb to reach at scenic viewpoint hill at Deurali.

Deurali offers grand views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks with Machhapuchare the fish tail, from here downhill into nice cool forest to reach at Potana village with fabulous views of peaks, where another hour of good walk brings you at Dhampus village for last overnight in the high hills of Annapurna Himalaya.

Morning walk downhill on last day trek of the adventure reach at the bottom of a hill at Phedi a small place, where drive takes you back at Pokhara, after a most enjoyable and scenic time of high hills on Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp Trekking.

Morning an overland journey to reach Kathmandu on leaving Pokhara after breakfast, where drive lead on the same interesting highway to reach at Kathmandu and to your hotel, with afternoon free to enjoy your own personal activities.

Last day in Nepal with memorable times and experience on Himalaya, as time for your international flight and then depart from the hotel, where our staff and guide transfers you for your flight homeward bound.

  • Emergency Evacuation by any means of Transportations and personal medical kit.
  • Early return from the trips or breaking up the journey due to personal / medical reason clients has to bear extra expenses in Kathmandu or on route with related expenses as there will be no refund from the company in such situation.
