Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang, also known as hidden world of old Buddhist kingdom or forbidden kingdom, is a phenomenal tourist destination preserving the Tibetan cultures. As it lies on the lap of the great Himalayas, it gives out the best views of the Himalayas and the sophisticated landscapes. Upper mustang is also considered as the high desert region of Nepal with an altitude of 4000 m. This trekking destination was once used as the route for salt transportation in Nepal. Foreigners need to obtain a special permit to enter, costing US $ 50 per day per person. Jomsom, Kagbeni, Kali Gandaki river, the royal palace, a few beautiful monasteries like the Thugchen Gompa built in the 15th century, the Amchi museum and Amchi school takes away the breathe of travellers.


Day 01:Arrival at Kathmandu, tranfer from the airport to hotel.
 Day 02:Kathmandu. We will apply for the Upper Mustang Permit and visit the town. Preparations for the trek.
Day 03:Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara.
Day 04:In the early morning, we will take the short and impressive flight from Pokhara to Jomsom(2700m); in 20 minutes.After our  arrival at Jomsom, and then start our trek with 2/3 hours walk to Kagbeni(2800m), the ancient village that is the gateway to Upper Mustang. Accomodation in guest house, overnight.
Day 05:Trek from Kagbeni to Chele(3100m), takes about 5/ 6 hours. We proceed along the Kali Gandaki valley, and its barren but scenic landscape, through the villages of Tangbe and Chhusang, up to Chele; accommodation in tea house.
Day 06:Trek from Chele to Syanbochen(3800m), takes about 6/7 hours, climbing and descending the TaklamLa, with superb views of the surrounding mountains, we pass the village of Samar and the Ramchung Cave. Overnight in tea house at Syanbochen.
Day 07:Trek from Syanbochen to Ghami(3510m),takes about  5/6 hours. Today we climb two passes and then descend to Ghami. Overnight at tea house.
Day 08:Trek from Ghami to Charang(3560m), takes about 4/5 hours. The walk is easier today, crossing the Ghami river and then on the plateau close to the longest mani wall in Mustang. In Charang we can admire its Dzong( fort) and Gompa ( temple). Overnight at tea house.
 Day 09:Trek from Charang to Lo-manthang(3840m), takes about 5/6 hours. We climb a little higher to the Lo Pass, introducing us to the walled city of Lo. Accomodation in guest house.
Day 10:Lo-manthang- Exploration of the town and its surroundings. Overnight at guest house.
Day 11:From Lo-manthang, we drive by jeep throughout the day back to Kagbeni and then up the side valley of Muktinath, where Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims constantly visit the sacred shrines. Overnight at guest house.
Day 12:Trek from Muktinath to Lubrak, take about 4/ 5 hours. We walk across the mountain to the bonpo village of Lubrak, accommodation in guest house.
Day 13:Trek from Lubrak to Jomsom, takes about 4 hours.  We return to Jomsom where we visit the Mustang Culture Education Centre (MCEC) and also visit to Jomsom museum.
 Day 14:From Jomsom we fly or drive back to Pokhara in the early morning. The rest of the day is free for relaxing and leisure time. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.
 Day 15:From Pokhara we fly or drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 16:Kathmandu- Free day for sightseeing-shopping.
Day 17:Departure from Kathmandu to your onward destination.

NOTE:  The itinerary for this trek is always flexible i.e. the duration of this trek can be both increased and decreased as per the traveller’s schedule and length of the holidays. The Himalayan region of Nepal have unexpected challenges in health and natural conditions so the itinerary might be modified or changed as to fulfill the desires of the clients providing the best security. As the flight schedules on Himalayan region are weather dependent, the time of the flight might be changed according to the weather forecasted.
